5 Ways to Get to Know Your Audience in 2025

Plus free tools to get you started!

Are you looking to grow your reach in 2025? Whether you are a small business owner, nonprofit development professional or a budding TikTok travel influencer, chances are that you have set goals for the new year that involve getting your brand in front of more people.

At ke comms, we want to help you achieve your objectives. We put together this easy list inspired by our client discovery methodology to get you started, complete with a few free tools you can begin using today.

1. Know Yourself

This is first on the list not only because knowing yourself is important for personal fulfillment, but it is also critical in identifying your audience(s). What do you have to offer? What sets you apart from similar brands?

If you think you can skip this step, consider exploring what AI like ChatGPT or Gemini have to say about you.

Are they aware you exist? If not, you may have stumbled onto a new opportunity to put yourself out there. Alternatively, are they teaching you anything new, or spreading misinformation? You can dig into where that content may be coming from, and work to correct it if necessary, using their list of sources.

2. Define Your Audience(s)

With your fresh perspective gleaned from self discovery in Step 1, now you can consider different characteristics that may apply to potential users of your product. Who would benefit from your product? Where can you find them, and ultimately get your brand in front of them?

No two consumers are the same, but they can have similarities that you can use to reach them en masse. However, you must be careful not to oversimplify this step or you could alienate potential business.

3. Monitor Trending Keywords

Now that you have profiles in mind for your potential customers, you can put yourself in their shoes. Better yet, you can put yourself in their search engines.

What do people in your audience(s) want? What are they searching for that you can provide?

You can dig into this using tools like Google Trends, which allows you to monitor what people are searching for and following in real time. Once you identify what interests people in your audience, you can better create content that appears in their feeds and results pages.

4. Conduct Primary Research

While there are millions of sources for secondary research available, it is key to make direct efforts to understand what your potential customers need and how they feel about you.

By conducting your own primary research, you can bolster your brand’s authenticity while also making personal connections with your audience. If you have Facebook or Instagram, you can conduct flash polls to foster engagement and also gain valuable data.

You can dig deeper by hosting focus groups or in-person events where you can facilitate feedback collection in real time.

5. Keep Track of Performance

How people respond to your content matters. Has your website seen increased page visits recently? Are your posts on social media getting ‘liked’? If so, try to see what inspired those actions so you can build on that success.

Google Analytics and Insights in Meta Business Suite can be a huge help here. You can use the former to identify how people enter your site and what actions they take while they are there, and the latter to discover all kinds of trends about your followers on Facebook and Instagram.

If you have not been using these tools (or some other performance tracker) regularly, make 2025 the year you get started.
