June was a busy month both professionally and personally, locally and nationally.
As owner of ke comms, I work with clients who contract directly with the business. I also work with clients who I subcontract for through partner agencies, sometimes they are local agencies and clients and sometimes they are located out of state. I’m a remote-first business and usually do everything via Zoom, email, text and all the other methods of communications we have at our disposal now.
That changed this month when I traveled to New York City to help with a client’s event. Through a partnership with the agency Human Impact Solutions, I work closely on media relations with Black Liberation Indigenous Sovereignty (BLIS) Collective. They held an event in Brooklyn called Reclamation Day, a day of re-imagining the 250th birthday of the U.S.
The experience was nothing short of amazing. It was also the first time I got to meet colleague and friend Janet Dickerson in person. Though we’ve worked together throughout the last few years, we had never met in person.

Ahead of Reclamation Day, I was able to earn this placement in a local Brooklyn-based outlet.
In addition to meeting and spending one day with Janet, I was also able to meet up with other people in NYC, including a former Associated Press colleague, a current client who is an artist, another PR professional, and a journalist I had worked with on a story that she wrote for a cover feature for USA Today.

I also earned placements in June for other clients, including Mother Road Market/Kitchen 66, which is a client through a partnership with Resolute PR. In June, they appeared in Time Out and Allrecipes.
Tulsa Innovation Labs – another client I work with regularly through Resolute PR – also earned two placements in Rolling Out in June. Read them here and here.
Finally, on an exciting personal development milestone, I was once again named Communications Chair for the Association for Women in Communications Tulsa group as well as president-elect, which means I’ll be president of the organization in 2027-2028. I'm super excited about the next two years with AWC Tulsa and can't wait to share more about what we are planning. Stay tuned!
